Ujjwal Bharati

Ujjwal Bharati is one of the main front runners of the present generation in Banaras Gharana, in India. Born in a family, which was deeply associated with Indian Classical Music, he was quite responsive to get into the same business. As curious as he always was regarding the percussion, he finally struck the note with the primary Indian Percussion- Tabla. In his formative years, he had first learnt from Sri Madan Mohan Kahar for five years and finally, at the age of twelve he went under the tutelage of the Legendary Tabla Maestro and Great Guru Pandit Kumar Bose. His progress and dedication made him a 'Ganda Bandh Shishya' of Pt. Bose very soon.

In today's time he is not only an accomplished and complete Tabla Player but also a main torch bearer among the students of Pt. Kumar Bose.


  • He won the YUVA UTSAV Competition in the year 1992.
  • He received The Sangeet Acharya Award in the year 1996.
  • He was bestowed with The Guru Mohini Mohon Samman in the year 2010.
  • He received an 'A' Grade from All India Radio and Doordarshan and has performed in many AIR Sangeet Sammelan and National Program.
  • He received the Yadubhatta Award in the year 2011.

Professional Life

  • He had first performed at the age of fifteen in front of stalwarts and authorities of Indian Classical Music and since then, his career as a Tabla Player has augmented profoundly.
  • His first Europe Tour in the year 1998 has fetched him International acclamation. He started performing internationally and would be covering up the globe very soon. He has not only performed in concerts but also has conducted workshops and seminars at various prestigious venues globally.
  • His appearance as an accompanist in the classical music show named "Bhorer Akash" in the TV channel 'Akash Bangla' brought him national recognition in the field of classical music in India.
  • Ujjwal was fortunate enough to first perform with his GURUJI in the year 1996. Since then, he had performed innumerable times with him in Tabla Solo Concerts and in accompaniment as well. He has been privileged to be a part of the rich tradition of Taleem on stage, which is indeed a rare syndrome in our times.
  • Ujjwal has accompanied artists of International Repute, such as Ustad Rashid Khan, Pt Maninal Nag, Pt Rajan & Pt Sajan Mishra, Pt Viswamohan Bhatt, Pt Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Pt Kushal Das and Pt Debojyoti Bose, Pt Kaivalya Kumar Gurav, Vidushi Sangita Shankar, Vidushi Kala Ramnath, Pt Naren Dhar, Pt Debashish Dhattacharya, Pt Tarun Bhattacharya,Acharya Jayanta Bose, Vidushi Debki Pandit, Vidushi Purnima Chowdhury, Pt.Rajendra Prasanna, Pt. Sanjeeb Avayankar, Vidushi Rani Karna, Pt. Vijay Kichlu, Sri Purbayan Chatterjee, Vidushi Kaushiki Chakraborty to name a few.
  • Ujjwal has not only worked on the pure form of Indian Classical music, but also has worked on several Fusion Projects and experimental Music endeavours. He has also played several other percussion instruments in some his works with utmost dexterity.
  • His recent experimental collaborations in the genre of dance performances are internationally recognised. He is also developed himself as an affluent accompanist in Kathak Dance form.
